St. Vincent de Paul feast celebration
The SVP members of Milagres along with 25 beneficiary families celebrated the feast of St. Vincent de Paul during 9:30 AM Mass on Sunday, 1st October, 2017.
A small get-together was organized at the Parish Hall thereafter. A prayer song followed by a welcome address by the SVP President, Mrs. Philomena Menezes and an insightful message by Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, parish priest of Milagres Church, gave the programme a meaningful start. A good blend of games, dance, singing and prize distribution to meritorious students set the mood light and cheerful by a meticulously organized emcee, Hilda Rodrigues. The Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs. Cecilia Pereira was present.
The programme concluded with a note of gratitude by Mr. Winston D’Souza. Rev. Fr. Edwin Monis, assistant Parish Priest implored grace before the meals that followed by lunch for all present. Four SVP members have sponsored the total expenses of this event.
Here’s a little insight into the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
St. Vincent de Paul was a priest of the Catholic Church who dedicated himself to serving the poor. He set an example to show that Christian charity did not merely mean giving alms or a show of sympathy to the poor, rather, it is a feeling of equality, fraternity and sharing, as the children of the same father. St. Vincent de Paul was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity and is known as the “Great Apostle of Charity”.
